Principal Financial

Principal contracted me to shore up some lag in the V of their new MVP.
0-1 product

When there is nothing laid down in front of you, where do you go? After absorbing the McKinzie deck, we set out to grasp MVP by the horns. The desire is a platform for small business owners.

Can not get too far into the actual solution, as it has not launched publically yet.

Multiple workstreams

Getting product teams stood up and aligned when MVP is just a glimmer can be tough. I first sought to centralize the teams on the user personas our solution was targeting. From there I quickly set out to give content a perspective, as we all know content is the hill most apps will die on eventually.

Finding the 'hook'

Much like writing a hit song, every platform needs that one provision it can lean on to prove its worth. During rounds of user interviews, it became clear we could focus on something tangible and unique to our audience without too much effort. I can't get into what the solution was, but it was one of those "wow that's so easy to provide, the users want THAT?" moments.

Outcomes

The product isn't scheduled to go to market until Q1 2024. During my contract, I was able to organize the 4 workstreams around a centralized view of the user and their focus. Develop a strong 'hook' for the product teams to deliver on. Overall, about 30 hours of qualitative user interviews were conducted. Several card sorts and surveys were also conducted, synthesized, and communicated into Miro boards for P.O. activation.
